The restoration of La casa dell’uva
La casa dell’uva is a project born in 2017 when the need arose to have a place to make our wines. We wanted a representative, intimate and welcoming place in the historic town of Masserano, once a Papal principality. Although the building was in a state of decay, its charm won us over. Stables and woodshed have become the winemaking rooms. The ancient cellars have been restored. “The hall of the priest” has become the tasting room. The intimate courtyard, reminiscent of a cloister, is the vital hearth of the building, and the imprint our label.
The restyling
Our approach to the restoration was to preserve the original architecture and its meaning while updating the rooms with modern surfaces and lightning. The difficulty in the redevelopment was that of having to integrate the new cellar functions with the fragmentation of the spaces of the historic building. The very characteristics of the structure have translated into strengths of an enological nature: having located the vinifications above the cellars we are able to carry out movements by gravity; the masonry and the clay substrates of the aging rooms also help to keep the temperature and humidity of the wine constant. It is a source of great pride for us to have contributed to the rebirth of this architectural space with contemporary functions.
